Biz-e-Teen

What makes our high school special

Midcities Montessori is a small private school in Bedford, TX. It opened as a school to serve students from 3-years-old through 8th grade. But as our students grew older we realized there was a need for a high school program that follows the Montessori philosophy of “Education for Life.” Our focus is not on grades or testing, but on skills that will serve us into adulthood. The 2018-2019 inaugural class aptly named the program “Biz-e-Teen” for its double meaning – “busy teens” who are learning academics as well as real world skills while actively participating in their community; and the “e-business” these teens are preparing to launch and manage as part of their high school experience.

Lifesmarts

Consumer education for teens

Lifesmarts is a consumer education program for teens sponsored by the National Consumer League. Established in 1994, the program uses knowledge bowl style questions to inspire conversation in the classroom that prepares students to enter the real world as smart adult consumers. Participants focus on five key topic areas: consumer rights and responsibilities, the environment, health and safety, personal finance, and technology. This year more than 35,000 students across the country competed, answering more than 3.5 million questions. The competition culminated in Orlando, Florida in April 2019 with the top 40 teams in the country fighting for the title “Lifesmarts National Champion.” Midcities Montessori was one of those 40 teams.
